“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” ― Oscar Wilde
Convey truth to people who would otherwise be deaf to it
Grainery Theatre exists not as a means to placate a few restless creatives but as one of the church’s primary weapons for cutting directly into the hearts of men. The arts have a mysterious way of being able to convey truth to people who would otherwise be deaf to it. The Grainery uses many forms of art to spread the Gospel, but theatre has stood as the form most unique to the church’s identity since its inception two decades ago. In that time, Grainery Theatre has forged out a name for itself as the primary Jesus-centred theatrical outlet in the region.
Grainery Theatre prides itself on producing original works each Easter and Christmastime which tell the timeless story of Jesus in contemporary and tantalising ways. These productions vary in style and approach, but consistently boast big casts, stunning music, dazzling choreography and bold theatrical direction. Beyond the Christian calendar, Grainery Theatre is responsible for family-oriented plays primarily intended to bring joy to the local community using performing arts as a crossroads of Christian and contemporary society. At an in-house level, the theatre team are increasingly focussed on using drama as a means to bring storytelling into the Sunday celebrations. In 2017, Grainery Theatre will have an emboldened focus on developing original works, running workshops for both actors and creative writers. The annual theatrical season at the Grainery holds opportunities for the most experienced thespian down to the enthusiastic dabbler. So whatever your level of experience, make yourself known to the Grainery Theatre team and help us present truth through the world’s oldest and most beloved art form.
